This is the 1st edition of our Monthly Playlist Feature!
The Monthly Playlist will feature songs and sounds that VibeWest editors and contributors will pick to highlight some of the music that we have been listening to and talking about. It won’t feature just one genre, rather a glimpse into what great sounds are happening all over the West Coast Festival Scene.
This month starts off with a classic track from a well known Musician who has been blessing the Festival Scene for many years. Gaudi gives us Bethe Bethe Kese Kese, from his 2007 album Dub Qawwali, a tribute to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Next is a powerful title track to TIna Malia’s latest album “The Lost Frontier”.
Portland, OR based Phutureprimitive and L.A. based David Starfire give us some warm bass tones with a remix of Massive Attacks “Teardrop”, and “House of Bhangra” feat. Afrika Bambaataa. Polish Ambassador gets funky with “Rootshine Revival” and Beats Antique get the circus started with “Amnesia”.
The late Scott Hardkiss who passed away last month is next on the list with a remix of the Lissie song “Little Lovin”. DJ/Producer Ill Gates demands we know his name on the track “I’m EEL”, and breakout DJ ChrisB. gives us the crunchy “Swivel Stick”.
Smashed in towards the end is a band we just discovered called He’s my Brother She’s my Sister. The band was formed in Los Angeles and draw sounds from wide range of genres ranging from pop, country, and punk among others. They give us the song “Let it Live Free” and by the way, they are actually Brothers and Sisters!
The Monthly Playlist will be featured each month on our Music Page!
